If you are looking for a pet that is very easy to take care of, then a leopard gecko is one of the best choices you can make. This is one of the many reasons why people think these reptiles are so wonderful. They are inexpensive and do not require a lot of extra care like other pets night. Before buying or bringing home your Leopard gecko, here is some <a rel="external nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-care-for-leopard-gecko” target=”_blank”>basic care information you should really know.

Choosing the Right Home or Enclosure

An aquarium is by far the best choice for your Leo to live. They are relatively cheap and come in many different sizes. Probably the most common choice as a home for your new pet is a 10 gallon aquarium. This is definitely sufficient, but I would recommend that you house your Leo in at least a 20 gallon aquarium. Just doubling the size will do wonders for your pet. They will have more room to run around and exercise, as well as, be less stressed.

Once you have chosen the right enclosure, you need to decorate it. When creating a habitat for your gecko, the more natural, the better! One of the keys to a healthy Leo is creating a stress free environment. Having natural looking decor such as rocks, twigs, branches, etc will create a virtual oasis for them.

Suitable Substrates

If you are wondering what substrate is, it is what is going to cover the bottom of your Leo’s cage. There are many different choices of substrate, however some work better than others. Some examples of acceptable substrates are: kitchen paper towels, unused computer paper, Reptile Carpet, slate or tile. These are all considered solid substrates.

Some gecko owners use loose substrates like sand or coconut husks. It is not recommended to use loose substrates because Leo’s have been known to swallow this loose material which results in severe or deadly stomach problems.

Under Tank Heating Systems

The natural environment for your reptilian friend is an arid, dry environment. the best way to replicate that is to use an Under Tank Heating System or Pad. this is specifically designed to gradually provide the proper warmth for your pet from underneath your pet’s enclosure.

These are the best choice because they can be adjusted accordingly to make sure the temperature is just right. If you do not want to use a UTHS, a simple light bulb will work.

Whats for Dinner?

Insects are your geckos favorite food. They will eat crickets, meal worms, cockroaches, etc. feeding a gecko will be an exciting time! However, just eating insects is a going to be nutritious enough for your Leo. You are going to have to provide some type of nutritional supplement to help keep your gecko well-nourished.

As you can see, there is a little work involved in caring for your Leopard gecko. Did you know that most Leo’s die within the first 30 days in their new environment? If you are curious to know why and want to know what you need to do to save your Leopard gecko, you must visit “10 Secrets to Save Your Leopard Gecko”

What kind of pet you are looking for? Have you ever thought about a gecko? You will find different kind of geckos but there is only one which is perfect as a house pet.

If you have seen pictures of leopard geckos, you are probably aware of what beautiful reptiles they are. Because of the work of breeders, leopard geckos come in an astonishing array of colours and patterns, from tangerine orange all the way to black and white striped, and many of these are quite striking creatures. I have been breeding reptiles for years and years now, and let me tell you: leopard geckos are some of my very favourite. This is not just because of their striking appearance, however. It is because they make such great pets.

Many people complain that reptiles are lousy pets. They feel that snakes and lizards are bad tempered, unaffectionate, dull, and boring company. For many of these creatures, this is true. They are simply not very easy to socialize, and are at best indifferent to humans. But the leopard gecko is different. Leopard geckos, if they are brought up among humans for their whole lives, are friendly, affectionate creatures who are really quite easy to get along with for anyone. They are pretty easy to care for as long as you remember a few basic facts about them. All leopard geckos must receive adequate, but not excessive warmth. Leopard geckos also must be fed daily with insects, and the like, and have enough space to move around. Finally, leopard geckos must not be left all by themselves. They technically can survive by themselves, but as a leopard gecko breeder, I can tell you that they are much happier when they have company. Really, leopard geckos do best when raised in groups of two or more, but even human companionship will help keep your pet happy. And a happy pet is a healthy pet.

If you are thinking of getting leopard geckos, there are a few things that you must consider first. They are not cute in the traditional sense, and so if your idea of a perfect pet is something soft that you can pet at your convenience, then the leopard gecko is right out. Although they are fairly affectionate lizards, if you are looking for some creature that will be overjoyed every single time that you enter the room, ditch the leopard geckos in favour of a nice golden retriever. But, if you are a lizard person, you probably already know it. If your idea of a nice pet is an interesting pet, then leopard geckos might be just the thing for you. I hope you already made your choice; you will never find a friendlier house pet than a gecko.

NEVER EVER USE A HOT ROCK, HEAT ROCK, OR ANY SIMILAR PRODUCT if you do you risk the possibility of thermal burns.

Just skip light bulbs altogether and use an under tank heater. They do not emit any light, no replacement needed and less of a fire hazard if set up properly. They also do not dry the air out as much.

Do not use crappy heat mats go with the Exo-Terra Desert model.

If you must have a light use a red light. The reason for red light is that they cannot see it; you keep from having a massive temperature drop at night. You would not see much of you gecko with a blaring bright light. Also there are black and blue light that will work however you will not see the gecko at night very well if at all.

Do not measure the temperature in the tank with a thermometer on a wall etc., the temperature on the bottom of the tank that matters where the gecko spends the majority of its time.

Here are some more tips for a properly warmed and happy gecko.

The leopard gecko heating environment should be between 82 to 88 degrees all day and night.

Heat one end of the environment more so that the gecko can move to and from the heat source to regulate its body temperature.

Leave the heating pad on all night. Think about the room temperature also. If you live somewhere where the temperature may vary significantly, make sure not to overheat the cage in the summer or under heat during the winter. Temperatures in most homes can range from about 64 in the winter to 85 in the summer. So turn off one or both of the heating elements during the hottest parts of the summer. (Try using a thermostat and adjust accordingly.)

Virtualization helps server hosting companies save money by allowing server functions to live on fewer physical machines, saving space, power, maintenance, and up front acquisition costs. VMware takes virtualization further; its bare metal hypervisor runs more efficiently than OS-based virtualization, allows more processes to run with less operating system overhead, and offers many operating system choices for virtual machine users.

Now, with the introduction of vSphere 4, VMware’s newest datacenter virtualization platform, VMware offers big savings for both virtual server hosting companies—and their customers—though higher server consolidation, reduced power consumption, denser storage, and lower maintenance requirements, all while supporting more virtual machines.

Doing More of What Virtualization Does

vSphere offers more of VMware’s money-saving features to lower the costs per virtual server and reduce environmental impact through more efficient server consolidation, dynamic power scaling, and higher bandwidth networking.

vSphere supports hardware equipped with up to 64 logical processing cores, 256 virtual CPUs and one terabyte of RAM per host, so more virtual machines can be operated in less physical server space. In addition, support for AMD Rapid Virtualization and Intel Extended Page Tables allows consolidation rates to be increased. With the ability to increase substantially the number of VMs on each physical server, hosting companies achieve economies of scale more quickly, leading to lower costs, and in many cases, lower prices.

Direct savings also result from lower power consumption and reduced infrastructure. Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling reduce power costs, and by implementing 10 gbps Ethernet and vNetwork Distributed vSwitch, hosting companies can drastically reduce network complexity. This reduction in complexity leads both to lower equipment acquisistion costs and a reduction in staff the required to install and maintain the network. This allows the VMware based hosting company to operate more cost-effectively, which in turn can be used to offer better service for less money. Finally, vStorage Thin Provisioning allows your hosting company to increase storage density, resulting in lower cost per GB of storage.

With competitve pressures, a VMware-based server hosting company can pass the savings achieved with vSphere on to its customers. If you’re looking for dedicated server hosting, a hosting company using vSphere can achieve higher consolidation ratios through support of higher density hardware per host, enabling it to pass the savings on to its customers in the form of lower rates for each virtual machine.

At only 6-8 inches long, both in the wild and in captivity, leopard geckos make a great choice for a small household pet, and they require minimal care as compared to many other pet reptiles. They produce very little odor, and if you take care to handle a leopard gecko while it’s still a baby, he’ll be quite tame as an adult and almost enjoy being held!

The one thing to keep in mind when choosing a leopard gecko for a pet is his living environment. Since their natural environment is a hot, dry desert, leopard geckos don’t fare well in humidity. Thus, their cages need to be free from excess moisture, in order to ensure they don’t develop debilitating respiratory infections.

Leopard geckos also need to be handled with care, as their tails can actually fall off when they’re scared or anxious. They can grow new tails, however it will be smaller and slightly less useful, since a tail-shed is actually a defense mechanism used by leopard geckos to distract predators in the wild!

Feeding your leopard gecko is relatively simple, but like any reptilian pet, you’ll need to keep an eye on making sure your pet has a well-balanced diet. Leopard geckos enjoy eating crickets, mealworms, wax worms, and silk worms, and you can ration these out to make some more common items – like crickets and mealworms – his primary dinner, while offering wax or silk worms as a regular treat! You’ll also need to supplement your leopard gecko’s diet with a calcium powder, which you can coat the meal insects with before feeding times. Also, place a small dish of calcium powder inside the cage.

Geckos need the calcium to keep their bodies healthy and limber, and if you don’t provide this to them, they’ll actually try to eat the sand in their cage to get the calcium they need. If this happens, your gecko will be at risk of death from sand impaction, as it hardens painfully inside their intestinal tract. To avoid this, provide your leopard gecko with a calcium supplement, and if at all possible, choose a rocky terrain instead of using sand inside the cage.
